Windows Phone Game Review: ByeByeBrain

ByeByeBrain

Yep... it'south another zombie, tower defense game for your Windows Phone. But don't be likewise discouraged. ByeByeBrain is a wonderfully animated addition to our zombie/belfry defence game line up.

Armed with 5 unlike, upgradable, volunteers to defend your city from the invading horde of zombies, the game takes on the typical tower defence force goal. Preclude the hordes from passing from one side of your Windows Phone screen to the other. Every bit you wipe out the zombies you earn cash and for each zombie that survives your onslaught, y'all loose a life (y'all only get twenty of them).

ByeByeBrain Menu

The master card is laid out with simplicity with options to continue and start new games, view your options, view the help screens, view the online leaderboard, and access the ByeByeBrain Facebook page.  Options control your sound effects and screen brightness levels. You as well have the pick to play your Zune tunes in the background as you play the game (prissy touch).

ByeByeBrain Game Screen

The game screen has your earning and lives displayed in the upper left corner. Your defensive options are spread out beyond the bottom of the screen giving you five options. To place a defensive character, simply tap and agree on the icon so drag your finger to where you want the character placed. A green circle volition appear to bear witness you the range of each character's weapon and if the circumvolve is red, placement isn't possible.

ByeByeBrain Character

Each defensive unit can be upgraded three times. They are:

  • The Spanker: The Spanker is your least expensive volunteer in the boxing confronting the zombies. He begins armed with a paddle and tin can be upgraded to an axe and then a ninja sword.
  • The Colonel: The Colonel is an interesting character who starts out throwing fried chicken at the zombies and progresses to ham and finally steak equally his weapons. I estimate zombies tin't handle fine dining.
  • The Fuzz: The Fuzz is your police enforcement representative who arms himself with a pistol that can be upgraded to a shotgun and ultimately a sub-motorcar gun.
  • The Cleaner: The but female defender in the bunch and she choose fire equally her weapon of option. She starts out boring with a aerosol can and lighter then works her way up to a blow torch and finally a military grade flame thrower.
  • The Nerd: Concluding but not least we have the Nerd who uses electricity every bit his weapon. Progressively his electric weapon grows from a small handheld unit to a large backpack with stylish helmet.

There is too a mini-game attached to each character that you tin play to give them i final, temporary weapons upgrade. A power boost of sorts.  The mini-game is a "tap the dots before they disappear" blazon game and the weapons heave is a groovy way to deal with the larger zombie hordes.  Every bit you progress through the game, the mini-games get more challenging.

Some other weapons heave is your ability to join in on the action.  You can turn your Windows Phone screen upside down, a machine gun will appear that can exist fired by shaking the telephone.  Again, another helpful tool in dealing with the larger hordes.

As far as the zombies are concerned, you accept a scattering of variations that include the wearisome and easy to take out kind, the fast moving kind and fifty-fifty one big zombie that seems to regenerate his health. This one takes a joint endeavour to take out.

As the game progresses and you lot survive moving ridge afterward wave of zombies, the stride picks up and you discover yourself facing the challenge of larger hordes and stronger zombies. The key to ByeByeBrain is your placement of defenses.  You tin get a nice gauntlet formed of your characters that will nearly let the game play itself while you savour the Zune music playing in the background.  Recollect to use all your playing field to guide your Zombies down the gauntlet.  The Zombies meander about in unmarried file and then y'all tin can criss-cross paths beyond the screen to create a rather healthy firing team.  The merely downside to graphic symbol placement is that you tin not re-position your characters.  So be careful you lot drib them in merely the correct spot.

Game play was fun. The animations, upgrades and mini-games gave ByeByeBrain an edge over other belfry defence games. The game screen can be rotated effectually in 3D fashion to give you perspective options.  It's kinda bully to go street level and have the zombies marching correct at you.

The merely glitch I have constitute in ByeByeBrains is that around level 50 the graphic that pops upwards saying "Horde Xx" tends to stick around.  Yous have to back out to the main carte and choose to keep the game for the graphic to disappear.  It's a minor glitch merely if you demand to manage your troops, the stuck graphic can go far the style.

ByeByeBrain is available in two versions. In that location is ByeByeBrain Light that is a free game just is functionally limited (can't proceed games) and the full version of ByeByeBrain (free trial bachelor) volition run you $1.99. If yous try the Lite version out starting time, information technology'due south going to be difficult to resist buying the total version.

Yous can observe ByeByeBrain Low-cal here and ByeByeBrain here at the Windows Telephone Marketplace.
